If you grew up dreaming about the time when hypospray, replicators, or medical tricorders would become a part of our reality, I am happy to report that the time has come – the future is now! There have been so many incredible advances in technology as it relates to human performance and longevity that a term has been created for it: biohacking.

Biohacking – the merging of the world of science with our physiological, spiritual and cognitive experience – is a concept I live by. The idea of wearing a device on your head or around your neck to help regulate your moods may sound like a plotline straight out of Star Trek – but it’s very real, and you can buy it for under $400.

I believe in Peter Drucker’s words, “what gets measured gets managed.” Over the past 20 or so years, I’ve spent a lot of time and money on research, gadgets, conferences, masterminds, even medical procedures like stem cell therapy, to optimize my health and become the best version of myself. And in one instance, I met Scott Donnell at the Genius Network Annual Event, where he introduced me to Hapbee.

Hapbee is an augmentative wearable device that emulates normal molecular interactions in the body through small, specific magnetic fields. When used correctly, the innovative device promises to replicate different feelings such as happy, alert, focus, relax, calm, and sleepy by emitting safe, low energy magnetic signals.

At first, I was skeptical, but I still jumped at the opportunity to try it.  Could we finally have reached sci-fi levels of the future and actually hack our emotions? Some trailblazers in the biohacking scene were already raving about the product, like Dave Asprey, who called it a “stroke of genius” and “feels like Ironman” when he wears it. Dave is the world’s most foremost biohacker, and whenever he says something is worth trying, it usually is.

I decided to give Hapbee a shot and bought it, and all I can say is the gadget does what it promises. It also makes a geek-chic fashion statement. I wear it all the time on Zoom calls and it’s a great conversation starter.

The first time I tried it I didn’t feel anything. But I stuck with it. By the third time, I was feeling it! According to Hapbee, you need to give it a number of tries over a week or two. I really enjoy the Alert signal, which mimics the pick-me-up feeling of caffeine from a good cup of coffee but without the jitteriness. Personally, I don’t like coffee, so this is great. I alternate between the Alert signal and the Focus signal to stay in a flow state while I work.

My favorite signal though is Relax. It feels ah-mazing! It’s been especially beneficial during these uncertain times we’re living in. By using the Relax signal, I am able to quickly feel de-stress, get grounded, and take my nervous system off of high-alert.
