Blog and RSS Feed Search SEO
Today I presented at the Search Engine Strategies conference on the "Blog and Feed Search SEO" panel. I spoke on optimization tips and tactics for blogs and for RSS feeds. I had to pack in a lot of material into a short amount of time, but I managed! We got some great questions in the Q&A. The session was blogged at Search Engine Roundtable.
Feel free to download my Powerpoint deck. There's tons of great stuff in there. Over 50 slides.

Great session...probably the best I attended thus far SES. Thanks! Can you point me in the direction of how to construct a tag-cloud on my blog? I have my delicious tag cloud there (which was just a matter of dropping code on the page) ... but don't know how to construct my own on typepad.

Here's a photo I took of Stephan as he delivered his presentation for this SES session:

This was a great session -- you inspired me to start up my personal blog in the near future.
Do you think that the search engine's ongoing work to reduce duplication on the internet will negatively affect the natural linking systems and RSS feeds found in the blogosphere?Comment by Chris [Visitor]

Hi Chris,
Thanks for posting the photo.
Great! I look forward to seeing it!
I don't anticipate it having a detrimental effect on natural linking and RSS feeds. In fact, I believe that as the engines improve their algorithms, the signal to noise ratio will improve as well. Fewer splogs will break through to the top of the SERPs and more legit sites that syndicate RSS feed content will make it through.Comment by Stephan Spencer [Member]

[...] Stephan Spencer has made available (it’s a .ppt file) his excellent Search Engine Strategies presentation, Blog and RSS Feed Search SEO. The session was also blogged live over at Search Engine Roundtable; here’s one of my favorite snippets: “Use keyword ins the feed title, less than 100 characters. Write your description as if for a directory, less than 500 characters. Use full paths on links and unique urls for each item. Each feed should have a keyword theme. Include images for branding. What are some ways that your can get your RSS beyond the blog. Well, you can use it for affiliate commissions, syndicating your content on other sites. New product announcements, security alerts, product uses tops, and so on. Amanda next goes into a lot of questions to ask about feed implementation. Measuring the results of your feeds is also a good idea. Stats can come from many sources and it’s going to get easier over time to do a lot of this.” [...]

Nice presentation, although don't really agree with the "no follow" scare.
Just one thing, one of the tools you mentioned, being tartools.com, has turned into a parked page.
A pity because this was one of the few I didn't know yet.Comment by Gemme [Visitor]

What more can I say? It's been over a year but your ppt deck is still a great read and incredibly insightful.
I would like to thank you as well for the help you have provided. Where you at SES NY 2007? I presented on SEO and AJAX on the final day.
Thanks
