A couple weeks ago I was invited by the folks at Elastic Path to speak to their clients and partners via webcast on a topic that's near and dear to my heart -- any guesses? -- yup, SEO. The webinar, titled "SEO Secrets for Online Retailers" was an hour long and is archived and available for playback over at SlideShare.net. Incidentally, speaking of SlideShare, I met one of the founders while at WordCamp this past weekend. There she announced that Tuesday (which is today) they would be unveiling audio recordings synchronized to the Powerpoint, so you can advance a slide at a time and the audio jumps to that part of the presentation. Tres cool! As one of the first slideshows with synchronized audio, this SEO Secrets webinar made it to SlideShare's most viewed slideshows list for today! :-)

Since at least a few people seem to want me to expand on my presentation from the recent Search Engine Strategies Conference in San Jose, I have put a one-hour screencast together. In addition to covering all the slides in the Powerpoint deck, I also ran through an example of a corporate website that is powered by WordPress and that uses, in novel ways, a lot of the blog optimization techniques discussed in my presentation. The corporate site I am referring to is that of my company, Netconcepts.

SEO-Links is one of my favorite Firefox extensions. I use it all the time to gauge how successful and how SEO-savvy a particular link advertiser is.

In this, my second screencast, in all of about 4 minutes, I show you how to install and use this handy plug-in (umm, I mean, extension). Once SEO-Links is successfully installed, I jump to the Seacoastonline.com home page, which is selling links over in the right column mid-way down the page, and with simply hovering my cursor over one of the text link ads, I can see how many links the advertiser has garnered to that page and how highly ranked they are for the search phrase that was targeted by their anchor text. This gives me an indication as to how good that advertiser is at SEO. My assumption is that an SEO-savvy and successful text link advertiser will make better advertising decisions than a failing one. If a bunch of successful ones flock to a particular site selling text link ads, then I'd come to the conclusion that it's probably a good site to advertise on (assuming other things check out like the advertisers aren't using spam tactics).

I've produced my first screencast, using TechSmith's excellent software program Camtasia Studio. In it I show how to install and configure the Google Toolbar in the Firefox web browser to display PageRank scores on any web page that you visit. I also show how to change the display of the Toolbar and some other settings. If you don't have the Google Toolbar installed on your PC or Mac, this little 6 minute video will show you the process along with some of the benefits.

I'd love feedback on how to improve my screencasting. I intend to do quite a few more of these, so feedback early on will help ensure that these screencasts are the best they can be.

Note that I will be providing beginner, intermediate, and advanced level SEO tips and tricks. This particular one is beginner level.
